Dear Honorable Prime Minister John Key,

We are writing to enquire and confirm something regarding a congratulation letter issued by Honorable PM John Key to the Fa Lun Gong Spiritual Movement.

Fa Lun Gong Spiritual Movement had launched an assembly to support and advocate Chinese people to quit from Communist Party of China in Auckland on 13 of June. According to the report of Epoch Times which is a weekly newspaper published by Fa Lun Gong Spiritual Movement, although PM John Key is so busy that he can’t attend the assembly, his personal assistant Ms Emma Holmes issued a congratulation letter on behalf of PM to transfer his best wished to the assembly and its attendents. The tone of the report make people feel that PM support this event very much and the letter is a Congratulation one.

As we know, Communist Party of China is the governance party. As some Chinese associations which love New Zealand very much, we worry that this report regarding PM’s congratulation letter will harm the relationship between New Zealand and China. If so, New Zealand benefit will be hurt.

We would like to get confirmation from PM office whether it is true that PM had issued a letter to the Fa Lun Gong Spiritual Movement to congratulate the Party-quitting event? If it is true, how PM can ensure it won’t hurt the relationship of New Zealand and China.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards
